Kinaeda was born to a family of interdimensional traders, the bastard son of Maurena Montegue (the youngest female scion) and Sato Kobesha, Captain of the Dancing Spears, the House guard. She did not tell her family who the father was until the day of the child’s birth. The family had alwasy been very picky about assigning mates to the next generation of children, and this was outside the families plan.
A quick Court of Elders was convened and it was decided that mother and child would be placed in stasis until a more permanant solution could be achieved. During the ceremony, Sato attacked the mage performing the ritual, and in an attempt to save his child and his beloved, was frozen instead. Kinaeda’s mother stole the child away, and escaped into the wild. Travelling for days through trackless wilderness, she arrived half starved at the gates of the Temple of the Singing Stones.
She spoke with the master there, who called himself Smiling Mountain, and told him the tale of her escape, and her fear for her childs life. Smiling Mountain knew of the feats performed by the legendary Dancing Spears, and decided to take on the child as a ward of the Temple, to be looked after by the groundskeeper, a woman known as Cloud, who had a newborn of her own.
In several days, the Montegue Clan arrived at the gates to the temple. A parlay was called, after which the Clan left with their Scion, and the bastard child remained at the temple, to be raised in secrecy, ignorant of his family and history, granted only a small mysterious medallion made of some unidentifiable and unbreakable metal. It is round, about 3 inches across and embossed with a stylized “M” in the common alphabet.
Kinaeda was trained in the monastary and travelled the wold after reaching his majority. Smiling Mountain bade him return with news, which he did from time to time. He found himself working as a courier during the events surrounding The Mourning, and events transpired to put him in contact with his Lady, who saved his life, and to whom he swore service until he could repay the favor, as was the tradition of the Singing Stones.
